Hey everyone! The Indie Craft Bazaar, Ft Lauderdale was AWESOME Saturday! It
was pretty hot (in the 90's) but that didn't stop everyone from coming. ^_^

Style Bite - Summer Style + Braids

I'm obsessed with braids this summer.. With the economy the way it is and 2012 around the corner, the 70's Hippie look seems to have made a comeback but this time it's even BETTER. It seems to be a mix between the 70's AND 80's, all combined and put together in a 2011 kinda way. Braided hair, sunkissed makeup, long flowy skirts, maxi dresses, high waisted denim cutoff shorts as well as a twist of recycled eco-concious clothes... Sounds a little like my summer line, right? Well, that's the point and that's my inspiration!

Whether it's a side braid, braid headband, fishtail braid, BRAIDS ARE IN. If you want to be in style this season, simply braid your hair, throw on some yellow and orange eyeshadow and go. That's the look, that's what's up! ;) To add some extra flair, throw in a feather extension or some feather earrings. Since feather extensions are usually long, for short hair the feather earrings will help you look your sexiest. You can even wear one feather earring and one chain earring to really switch things up.

And lastly, the Fishtail Braid which I find takes the longest but is the easiest:

These aren't the only styles you can do, mix them up and have fun with it!
I searched for a makeup tutorial but I couldn't really find what I was looking for. So instead, I'll just post some pictures of my beautiful friend/model Ali Dovolis (Makeup by Sweet Cheeks, Photos by Me) from my Summer Shoot!

Dada Bazaar Pictures!

Hey everyone! The Dada Bazaar Thursday night was awesome! It's a monthly bazaar in Delray Beach, FL - if you're down here you should definitely go check it out. Admission is free, and they even do fun things like live glass blowing as well as music inside near the bar.

Tutorial: Revamp Your Crap

In this tutorial I'll show you how to revamp your crap. Sometimes I just feel like making things and I enjoy re-using and revamping my junk and making it pretty & new! It's also good for the enviroment. ;)

I was in the middle of painting my old mirror when I realized making a tutorial would be awesome. So I started after I painted two coats of bright pink glossy paint across the frame. It's wall paint that I already had and it worked awesomely.

I tried to take this mirror apart in order to use the frame only, but the mirror was mega-glued to the frame so I'm going to leave the mirror in tact. You can also use a picture frame, which will be easier.

After a few hours (5 or 6), scrape the paint off the mirror with a flathead screwdriver. Be careful, the paint might still be wet in some spots. It won't mess-up the mirror. If you're using a picture frame this isn't necessary, skip to the last part. haha.

Clean and dry the mirror

*Clean!* It can be a mirror or picture frame. Decide!

Picture Frame. :) I used this awesome print I purchased off etsy here. Measure and make sure your art fits. Cut and/or fold if necessary

Now choose your glue. If you want it to be permanent use E6000. If you want it to be temporary use Hot Glue. I decided to use hot glue since it's not permanent.

Hot Glue: Put it on fast. The glue dries in seconds

E6000: Let dry for 24 hours

Add any accessories you want

Hang & enjoy your art!

Style Bite - Deco Nail Art

Hi everyone! I thought it would be fun to feature my favorite 'style bites' every week or every few weeks. I LOVE fashion (obviously) and I want to share my bites with you! ;)

Lately, I've been uber obsessed with DECO NAIL ART!!! This nail style can go from crazy to cute to dark to.. whatever! You can paint and glue onto your own nails, do it to some stick on fake nails or simply BUY them from my FAVORITE HANDMADE NAIL ARTIST!! Yes, I'm obsessed with her work! ^_^

Her name is Aya, she's 26 and lives in Japan, near Tokyo. She's a professional nail artist there and lucky for us, she sells her work on etsy! All you have to do is pick your favorite pair of nails (or pairs, I know it's hard to pick just 1) and measure your nails with your measuring tape (you should already have one, you do wear Meow Kiki, right?! ;)

Happy New Year + News News News :)

Hi everyone, happy new year!!

I hope you all had a great holiday season, mine was nice and relaxing. Also, my wrist had a nice rest, I'm pretty sure I have carpal tunnel now so I need to take it easy from time to time. Anyway, I had such an awesome vacation... First we went to New Smyrna Beach, we did alot of drinking (haha typical vacation on the beach), we went to the Kennedy Space Center for 2 days and finally we went to Kris' dads house in Orlando for 2 days. I feel like I'm missing something.. hm, well, maybe I was too drunk to remember. lol, anyway my vacation changed my life. How did it change my life? I'm now appreciating every day more and spending more time with my family and friends. Work is still my life of course, but I see things in a different way. Now to some Meow Kiki News!...
Expect LOTS of changes this year! I'm trying to get new stuff up on Etsy every day and am also planning on filling up www.meowkiki.com with MORE clothing and accessories. As you may have already noticed my new prices are looking a little different. Why? Because I'm trying something new! ;) Are my fabrics any cheaper? NO! I wish they were. Actually that reminds me of something I should tell you...

The other day I went to Joanns, fabric shopping of course for my usual cotton jersey knit. They have the best quality so I ALWAYS get it there. While searching for my knit, I stumbled upon the same colors I needed in a different fabric. The fabric was only $3 a yard! If you're not familiar, 1 yard equals 3 feet of fabric by maybe 60" or 45". Great deal, right?! So it was in the same colors I needed but 1/3 the price. I picked out my colors thinking "My customers are going to LOVE the cheaper prices!!"... but then I thought, and touched the fabric, pulled it, draped it over myself, stared at it for a long time.. lol.. And I thought "that is some crappy fabric. I don't want to use that. It's completely synthetic (of course thinking of the enviroment), it's thin, ew what was I thinking??!" So I put it back and went and picked out my expensive, beautiful quality cotton jersey knit that everyone loves! The moral of this story is I have morals and I could not buy the cheaper fabric to make things cheaper. I'm not sorry and I need you guys to know that I only sell quality clothing at the lowest price I can possibly sell them at without going completely broke myself. Please help support Meow Kiki by buying clothing from me and not cheaper places just because they're cheaper. I can assure you that mine can stand the test of time and I'm trying my hardest, as much as I can, to go eco friendly. Thank you for listening to my turning point story! ;)

Whew, I'm glad I got that off my chest! :D

In other news, I have my boyfriends twin brother working with me again. He used to work for Meow Kiki back a few years ago cutting fabrics. Today was his first day so I'm hoping it works out, that way you guys can get even MORE Meow Kiki!

Hey everyone!

Excuse the hamper under my table! haha. It's hiding extra clothing that I kept pulling out everytime something sold. Women were coming back and saying "You put out new stuff, didn't you?", "What else are you hiding under there?" was another popular question. lol :)

Hi everyone!!

Ok so I've got a lot going on... first of all, like I said before in my last post I was going to stop taking custom orders and now I have. It's been really great making everyone's custom orders for the past 2 years I've been doing it! :) I hope those that took advantage thoroughly enjoyed everything we've collaborated on. I'm still taking limited edition custom orders for things in my shop that say "CUSTOM Your Size". Those are the items where you pick your size and I make it. They can't be customized in any way other than the options given. I've already made these patterns in different sizes so simply pick and I will create. It's much easier for me and less time consuming all around. ;)

News + New Clothing!

Hey everyone, I've posted TONS of new things on Etsy! I have one more thing to post, a bracelet... but I'm contemplating keeping it at the moment. I know I know, I made it to sell but I love it so much, hm, I'll just have to keep thinking about it! ;)

I've also been working on my website. My awesome brother made my current one and it's been so awesome to me!! But I've outgrown it and it was pretty much made for a shopping cart that I no longer use so time for a new one. Here's a sneak peak of what I've made so far:

In other news, Meow Kiki will be CHANGING! For the better of course.

In the past I've played with my prices, played with the detail of my clothing, asked myself questions like "More clothes, cheaper prices? Less clothes, more detail, higher prices?" Ok so this is the new thing and it's something I can live with, and it's something that's not going to change. Meow Kiki items will be all couture. Everything will be very unique, detailed and higher end. In the past I've always wanted to cater to the masses but unfortunately I'm a one woman show and over-working myself to the point of being sick and exhausted has taken it's toll on me. I would rather not be a one woman sweatshop, hopefully everyone can understand. I've been doing it for 6 years now and more items, cheaper prices doesn't get much recognition. Like I said, from now on everything will be extremely unique. Less custom orders will be taken, so if you'd like something, now would be a good time to order it.

I'll also be transferring all clothing from MK Deconstructed over to Meow Kiki. I gave it a shot, but there's just way more traffic at Meow Kiki than there will ever be at MK Deconstructed.

I'm also working on a line of limited edition Gothic & Lolita Clothing. Yes, like the stuff you wear in Japan! These items will be offered in a variety of sizes, limited quantities, no custom orders.

I've also got some more great things in store, but I have to keep some secrets to myself! I really have a big mouth, so I should stop now. ;)

I'm very very excited about this change and I hope you are too!

Fashion Show Pics & Video!

Hey everyone! As you may already know, I had a fashion show in Miami on August 12th! It was grrrrrreat! It was my second fashion show ever and everything went awesome. Of course some models didn't show up, as usual, but GES models had me covered. Due to this, I had to cut out some of my clothing pieces but otherwise everything went down according to plan.

The show was at Kitchen 305 (Newport Hotel) in Miami. The vibe of the venue was amazing and the hotel was freaking HOT! By hot I mean, whoa, words can't describe. Maybe exquisite and expensive works. haha. Sooooo many people showed up, I don't even know how many people were there but there was tons. I met soooo many amazing people and learned even more about fashion shows. I tend to jump into things and learn as I go along. I also did a shoot the Sunday after the show for GES Models 2011 Calendar. So 3 of my pieces will be featured in there, I'll post where you can buy it when it comes out. It's sexy hot hot hot, if there's one word to describe GES Models it's definitely sexy. I have a behind the scenes video clip of that shoot, I'll be posting it soon!

My boyfriend Kris was kind enough to take video of the fashion show for me as well! I didn't ask him to, but I guess my Mom told him to so he did and I am soooo thankful because pictures just don't do fashion shows justice! I put the whole show up raw and un-edited because why destroy it with effects and garbage people don't care about? lol. Here's the video! Please comment or like it! If you don't like it... well.. go away. haha.

So the theme of my fashion show was chaos. When I started designing for the show I had just moved into a new place and everything was chaotic. My fabrics are all over the place and that's what my life has been like the past 2 months. I had ordered fabric for the show that never got here, it actually got sent back to the seller, lol, perfect right? But that's life and I already have tons of fabric anyway. I used my favorites, my customers favorites and went to work. I also made jewelry for the show, something I didn't do last time. All necklaces since that's my favorite type of accessory. I made things a bit "girly" of course and wanted to make things not so avant garde that people could rarely wear it, I wanted to make wearable things that women can wear anywhere and feel confident. So, I hope you like what I did! I was bored the other night and stumbled upon someone's blog, which wasn't particularly interesting but entertained me anyway. It got me thinking that I should update my blog more often, even when I feel like talking about non-sense.

I figured the first thing I should talk about is what my past year has been like since I never really told anyone in public. I'm one of those people that doesn't like to share too much unnecessary information ("TMI" I like to call it).. Too much information is bad thing, kinda like Mel Gibson. TMI Mel, TMI.. ANYWAYY!

In 2009 I started taking accutane for pimples. If you don't know what accutane is you can google or wikipedia it. It's the strongest drug for acne and is currently the only cure. It's a harsh drug with many bad side effects, all of which I got. If you were wondering why you didn't see me make many clothes last year this is why. I started accutane January 2009 and was on it until October 2009. Yep, pretty much the entire year. Towards the end my doctor finally realized the rash I had on half of my body was not because the accutane dried my skin but because I was ALLERGIC to it. When I told her everytime I took it, it felt like it was killing me I was finally done. Don't get me wrong, I knowingly took it knowing and experiencing the side effects for a purpose- to get rid of acne. Now if you've seen my pictures which are all over the place you'll say "You didn't have acne!". Yes, I did, I sat for hours photoshopping each pimple off my face, my face was not clear. It is now though, thank GOD, I don't have to photoshop anything but the brightness of my picture. haha. Well, for those of you that may be thinking of taking accutane or for those that are interested you can read the next paragraph where I'll talk about my experience or skip it...

My first day of accutane after I took my first dosage, I knew I was on drugs. Accutane isn't a drug where you take it and don't know you're on it. It's a drug where you take it and you're immediately f*&K^d up. No, not like "wheee, I'm in lalaland!" More like "I'm dying. Am I dying? Am I almost dead? Will this be permanent?" DON'T take accutane if you don't have serious acne. Take accutane only if you can read this and still think you need it, haha. So, my third day of accutane after my dose, I got a pounding headache. A pounding so hard I had to hold and compress my skull and yelled for Kris (my boyfriend) to hold the phone because he might have to call an ambulance. The headaches were constant and guess what, I still have them, it's permanent. When I'm in extreme heat I get really horrible migranes. Not just a typical migrane, a huge head pounding "dear god, just take my life already" headache. When I got heat headaches on accutane I would throw up and be sick for at least 3 days. On accutane I became unable to workout. Why? Because my joints and everything were hurting. I told everyone I knew what it felt like to be a 90 year old woman because my knees and hips were terribly painful. YES I GAINED WEIGHT! Obviously you have noticed, I went from extreme workout woman to way more junk in the trunk. If you were wondering, that's what happened. :P I had to use eye drops every day, 3 times a day. I got constant stye's in my eyes (another accutane side effect). A few months in to it, I was sitting on my bed and I thought my neighbors were being robbed. My heart started beating to fast I couldn't stop it. You could literally see my heart pounding through my chest. Kris tried to help me get blood thru my body because I thought I was going to pass out. I now know that was a real panic attack. You haven't really had a panic attack until you've thought you were having a heart attack. haha, I did not know that until then. That's when my doctor took me off 4 pills a day and put me back at 2. Oh and then I had that rash which started on my hand (doctor thought it was dry skin even tho I told her it wasn't) and spread to my leg. When i first started taking accutane I could literally feel things popping inside of me. Don't ask me what it was because I don't know. Even though nooo one I told believed me, I'm telling you that definitely did happen. Well, that's why I was so out of commission last year. haha. Not that's it's funny or anything I tend to laugh at things that shouldn't really be funny.

I also had my first fashion show last year which went horribly. I didn't get credit, no one knew who I was when my models went down the runway and I spent a ton of money to get to it and get a hotel. I wasn't too happy with my clothes because I had to make everything from recycled stuff and the photographer wasn't that great. lmao. I can say that my models were AMAZING though and we all kept each other up even when the shit hit the fan. I'll stay away from the trash talking, I'll just say it was a good learning experience.

Oh and by the way, since I've been off accutane I no longer have acne. ;) I'm back to working out like a crazy person and everything is normal. I just moved into a new place... an old house from the 1930's. It's amazing and I plan to do tons of photoshoots here. What else? Um. I think I've already given my TMI for the day, week and maybe even month. Enjoy my babble and watch out for new clothes!! :D

Hi everyone! I have great news... I'm going to be launching 2 new clothing lines in the next 1-2 months. They're both going to be womens lines and I'm witholding information because I want it all to be a surprise! ;)

I'm also almost finished working out details for my Mens Clothing line. I won't be selling thru Etsy, I'll be selling the clothes thru a website. Well, I might have an Etsy store just to see if it does well but I'm mainly going to be using a website. It's going to take a few more months, sorry guys! I've promised a Mens Line for over a year now and I still haven't launched it. It's just so much more time consuming than the womens clothes... mainly because I'm not a man and haven't made much mens stuff. haha. But things are getting better for me and I seriously can't wait until it's launched!

TRA'shion Fashion Show - July 11, 2009

Hey everyone, I'm happy to announce that I'll be having a runway show at the 2nd annual TRA'shion Fashion Show. I'll be there selling my clothes as well as hanging out and.. being cool. Come hang out with me and my models! :D

The show is July 11th
at: ARTpool Gallery & VINTAGE Boutique 919 1st Avenue North, Downtown St. Petersburg FL

The show is all ages. There's a $20 entrance fee, $15 entrance fee for students (bring your school i.d.) and kids under 10 get in free. There are tons of designers that will be there and the party rocks on from 6pm til midnight.

Please come! It will be tons of fun!!

Just a little update in case you were curious.. Mens line is still in the works. That money I had saved, well.. dwindled down to nothing. =X.. My rent is really high and so that's where it went BUT DO NOT FEAR!!!!! When I try hard I get what I want so it's coming it's coming.. don't be mad at me. lol XD

Women, more clothes are coming in more sizes too. I'm going to tryyy to flow with the times and make some cheaper things for you so prepare and save your money. :P

Mens Line in Progress...

Hey guys and gals, just a little update about my Mens Line!

As I said before it's going to have a different name, I won't make you walk around with Meow Kiki all over your back. hahah.. wouldn't that be funny though?

I was hoping to have my mens line launched at the end of this month (April) but.. I kind of changed my mind a teeny tiny bit..

I have exactly enough cash saved up to buy professional Screen Printing supplies but there is one additional thing that i want to buy that's $300. So, I figured I'm either going to do this the Heather way (impulsively buy the rest of the stuff without that important item) or the most effective way (buy it all at once save a bunch of money on shipping charges).. You see? So that makes sense right?

So, this ordeal may take me 1 month longer.. which totally blows because I've been waiting years YES YEARS to make my mens line.. ugh... impatience has taken it's toll! BUT, doing everything the right way is best.. SO get ready for amazing awesomeness............ cuz that's what I do.. create amazing awesomeness.. :P*
